At-Home Care

During this unprecedented time, the health and well-being of our patients is a top priority. We continue to provide access to physical therapy care to improve patients’ quality of life. Our at-home care program has an important role to play in controlling the spread of COVID-19 and minimizing adverse outcomes to our patients. Our therapists can treat you within your home, supporting the community and preventing unnecessary appointments, emergency department visits and hospitalizations.

Our team is staying informed of all CDC and Federal recommendations and procedures, including universal precautions to prevent virus transmission, and we are vigilantly following these protocols.

Home Care Program

Excel Sports Physical Therapy Home Care is designed for post-surgical and short term in home physical therapy patients. The intent is to have an experienced outpatient physical therapist see the patient following discharge from a hospital or surgery center. After determining that the patient is safe and ready to start outpatient physical therapy, the physical therapist will refer the patient to a clinic close to them for continuation of care. We believe this provides the most comprehensive and cohesive plan of care for the patient.

In regards to non-surgical patients, the physical therapist will see the patient for up to 2-3 weeks in the home with the overall goal of transitioning the patient to an outpatient clinic to continue care. It is Excel’s belief that an outpatient clinical setting offers more resources for the patient and will give the patient the best opportunity for overall success.

Our Home Care physical therapists are experienced treating the following:

– Post-Surgical total knee replacements

– Post-Surgical total hip replacements

– Post Surgical ankle surgeries

– Post-Surgical spine surgeries

– Post-Surgical Shoulder surgeries

– General weakness or limited mobility patients

Is at-home care covered by insurance?

Some insurance carriers cover at-home care the same way they cover an in-person visit, without the need for a referral. Our team can check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage before we schedule your appointment.

What precautions are we taking in response to COVID-19?

We continue to monitor developments surrounding COVID-19 and follow the CDC and APTA guidelines in our processes. For at-home physical therapy care, our employees are required to comply with the following:

  • Follow stringent infection control policies, including respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, proper hand hygiene, disinfecting measures and the use of recommended personal protective equipment (gloves and facemask).
  • Pass a screening protocol every day before starting their shift.
  • Follow CDC guidance when assessing patients/clients with a fever and lower respiratory symptoms, such as coughing or shortness of breath.

Employees who fail any component of the screening protocol are not allowed to work.
