Aquatic therapy

Aquatic therapy is a proven means of increasing range of motion, strength, and overall quality of life. The buoyancy of the water provides relief to arthritic or post-operative joints by unloading them. The warmth of the water provides relaxation to tight muscles. Moving against the resistance of the water can strengthen a muscle group in a way which is less painful than land based strengthening programs. The pressure of the water has even been shown to reduce swelling of the arms and legs.

This type of treatment may be ideal for patients suffering from:
Arthritis of the spine or extremities
Joint replacement surgery
Back surgery
Fibromyalgia
Edema or swelling
Sports injuries
Prenatal pain

Aquatic therapy can be a very useful supplement to a land based home exercise program. All patients are evaluated in a one-on-one setting and exercise programs are designed for each individual based on our findings. Excel's Wentzville facility proudly offers two different models of therapy pools which provide a wide variety of treatment options to accommodate the needs of each individual. We also have changing facilities and showers on-site.

Aquatic Fitness classes are also available for general strengthening and conditioning. Please call for details.
